The Dallas Cop featured on the cover of We're Only In It For The Money (below Statue Of Liberty) is James R. "Jim" Leavelle (August 23, 1920) , a longtime homicide detective and 26-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department. Though retired since 1976, he still gives interviews to groups ranging from schools to media organizations.

On November 24, 1963, Leavelle was assigned to escort Lee Harvey Oswald from the Dallas City Jail and was handcuffed to him when Jack Ruby shot Oswald in front of live television cameras.

Leavelle’s famous hat, suit, tie and handcuffs are on exhibit in the Sixth Floor Museum, located in the former Texas School Book Depository building in Dallas, Texas.

In addition, Leavelle is one of the survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
