Galileo Galilei was a 16th century Italian scientist who proved that Earth did indeed revolve around the sun and that a heavy object and a lighter object will both fall at the same speed. The Vatican forced him to withdraw his theories. In 1992, almost 450 years later, Pope John Paul II officially claimed that Galilei was right.
