Franz Kafka (July 3 1883 - June 3 1924) was a Czech-German writer. Kafka is one of the most influential novelists of the 20th century, whose strange and absurd stories have coined the term "Kafkaesque".

His most famous books are "The Metamorphosis" (1915), "The Trial" (1925) and "The Castle" (1926). Zappa instructed his fans to read Kafka's short story "In the Penal Colony" (German: "In der Strafkolonie") before they listened to the track The Chrome Plated Megaphone Of Destiny on We're Only In It For The Money.
