Jerry Lewis (March 16, 1926 - August 20, 2017) was a American actor and comedian. During the 1940s and early 1950s, he formed a comedy duo with singer Dean Martin. By the mid-1950s, Lewis began a solo career, becoming famous for his use of funny faces, childlike jokes and voices. His most popular film is "The Nutty Professor" (1963).
Lewis also hosted an annual television telethon to raise money for handicapped children. In the 1960s, Lewis was very popular in France, where he was regarded as an important and inventive comedian on part with Charlie Chaplin.
Lewis was also the father of Gary Lewis, lead singer of Gary Lewis & the Playboys.
