Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) was a British scientist and cosmologist. The author of "A Brief History Of Time" (1989), he was best known for his theories on cosmology and quantum gravity. Hawking suffered from a neuro-muscular dystrophy that is related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a condition that has progressed over the years and had left him almost completely paralysed.
