Vincent Persichetti (June 6, 1915 - August 14, 1987) was an American composer, pianist and musicologist. He contributed many pieces for the symphonic bands that flourished in American high schools and colleges in the 1950s. He lived for many years in Philadelphia, where he taught at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music (now University of the Arts School of Music) and the Curtis Institute of Music.
In 1961, Persichetti wrote the book Twentieth-Century Harmony: Creative Aspects and Practice.
Frank Zappa included Vincent Persichetti in the list of influences in the sleeve of Freak Out!, under the heading: These People Have Contributed Materially in Many Ways to Make Our Music What it is. Please Do Not Hold it Against Them.
