Mehli Mehta Born: Bombay, India, 1908. Died 2002.
Father of Zubin Mehta.
Founded the Bombay Symphony Orchestra in 1935 and the Bombay String Quartet in 1940. In 1955 he moved to England and assisted Sir John Barbirolli with the Halle Orchestra. Moved to USA in 1959 and in 1964 was appointed Director of the Orchestra Department at UCLA. a position he held until 1976.
In 1964 he set up the American Youth Symphony, which he led until 1998, which took young musicians from Los Angeles and the surrounding area. Novi Novog studied with Mehta while with the American Youth Symphony.
