Vernon Greene was name-checked on the cover of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them". He recorded "The Letter" with the - middle- to late-'50s vocal group - the Medallions (Dootone), one of FZ's favorite records (written by Green). They also did "Buick '59", one of the sexiest, lustiest, (intentionally) funniest car songs ever cut by a doo wop outfit.
