Note on his name: in most of his works, he used the (American) spelling “Edgar”, but later he used the French spelling “Edgard”.

Dear Mr. Zappa

I am sorry not to be able to grant your request. I am leaving for Europe next week and will be gone until next spring. I am hoping however to see you on my return. With best wishes.

                                            Sincerely
                                            Edgard Varese

Zappa purchased EMS 401 which is called "The Complete Works of Edgard Varese, Volume One"

Which one was used most commonly?

We could make a redirect from the less common to the most common...

Google gives 11,500 for Edgar and 14,500 for Edgard.

Fernand Ouellette's biography says his birth certificate says Edgard

All FZ references use Edgard including the unreleased album...

Edgar now redirects to Edgard

Edgar Varèse now redirects to the most common Edgard Varèse.

Dates and Styles

Should the birth and death dates appear after the name/page title (1883 - 1965) ?

Is there a standard Wiki Jawaka style for quoting from sources such as biographies etc.?

Not that I will agree with it even if there is :-)

  • Should the birth and death dates appear after the name/page title (1883 - 1965)?

Not in the page-name/title IMO. We could standardize it by listing it as the first chunk of info on the page though.

Not yet - do you have a proposition?

Wikipedia says there is no consensus on such things but provides some hints:
