Kevin Murphy is an American screenwriter, television producer, lyricist and composer. He was writer and producer for many series, including "Desperate Housewives".

Together with Dan Studney, he wrote a musical based on the 1938 cult classic "Reefer Madness". They were inspired to do so while listening to Zappa's Joe's Garage album during a car trip: ""Joe’s Garage" was like Zappa’s attempt at a musical", said Studney, "and I was thinking I’d love to stage it. Then there was some line about reefer or anti-authority or whatever, and I said to Kevin, ‘How come nobody’s ever done "Reefer Madness" as a musical?’" .[1]
