Theodore Meir Bikel (May 2, 1924, Vienna, Austria - July 21, 2015) was an Austrian-American actor and folk musician.

Biography

He made his film debut in The African Queen (1951) and was nominated for an Academy award for his role as the Southern Sheriff in The Defiant Ones (1958). Bikel also co-founded the Newport Folk Festival. As a theatrical actor he was best known for performing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
