UK Digital Remaster

What is currently UK "2nd Ed" is actually a new Digitally Remastered work
Cat# EN 5000
Label matrix: Disc 1 is E 50001 & Disc 2 is E 50002
Run-outs;
A = E 50001 A-1-1-1-3
B = E 50001 B-3C-1-1-3
C = E 50002 A-1-1-2-
D = E 50002 B-1-1-2-

Basically the same sleeve, with "DIGITALLY REMASTERED" white out of black strip along the top.
Pressed by EMI. Sleeve printed/manufactured in England
Barking Pump logo on back, bottom-right with "RB8601HP"
Cat# at top-right on back, with Barcode: 5 099926 081236

Hi Tonefish,

Yes, I know it has "Digitally Remastered" written on it.

But do you know how different it is when listening to it?

The purpose is to mention differences that people can hear or measure.

If they obtained the exact same sound with a different process, I dunno if we should change the version #.

We need to compare them.

For instance, I have the Dutch LP of The Man From Utopia which also has one track remixed, this is why we have put a different version #.

Could you please tell me more about "RB8601HP", what is it exactly? A sticker or something written in a box?

Firstly, I made an error - 2nd disc matrices begin E 50002 - (now as my corr above)

Regards intent of "RB8601HP". It is simply white text dropped out of the red print, under the BP logo.
It replaces the Label Code "LC 0149" that is on the first-issue UK sleeve (which I also have).
The digital cover also promotes the cassette tape; TCEN 5000
Regards significant sound 'differences', I will need to sit down & give them a whirl (It's been a while!). I do recall the 2nd being 'sharper' - obviously, they are different masterings/pressings - the 1st (CBS) has "Kdisc" stamped on run-out, the digital is an EMI.
(The fact that there is now an LP, a Cassette & a CD in that sector does suggest a difference that FZ wanted to bring to us folks?) Anyways, here's the CBS run-out matrices: (Unlike the digital, both discs have same label matrix "CBS 88560"
A = CBS-88560-A1 Side 1 [hand-etched] Kdisc [stamped]
B = CBS-88560-B1 Side 2 [hand-etched] Kdisc [stamped]
C = CBS-88560-C1 Side 3 [hand-etched] Kdisc [stamped]

Interesting stuff about this guy Kent Duncan. I wish I could talk with that kind of people if they could remind what they were doing at the time in order to learn more. In any case, I am working on a small sound analysis plugin in order to obtain measures that can help to find and explain differences in mastering. Do you mean some kind of imaging prog that overlaps sine waves for comparison, or whatever?
I'm quite intrigued by the kind of kit Aphex Twin uses to create images with sound (or vice-versa)

Did you pick up on my note regarding linking to any of my FZ UK label images?

Err... not quite such graphical features actually,

I dunno if you've heard about the Loudness war. My concern is that the quality of the music being produced is gradually decreasing over the years due to wrong practices in the stages of mastering.

So the purpose of this plugin is to measure the RMS value of a signal in dBFS and %FS (i.e. linear).

And in the future, I hope I can establish a suitable measurement for the quality of an audio signal (digital as well as analog).

I did not find, what stuff from Aphex Twin are you referring to?
