It looks like spam to me.

I think it's a cover band. It seems these guys made a cover of Lucille...

Plus they are referenced by United Mutations: http://www.united-mutations.com/t/os_travalhadores_do_comerco.htm

So what? My postman was whistling a Zappa tune the other morning should I set up a page for him? As time goes on all the real Zappa stuff is going to be swamped by all this "tribute" stuff - it is already cluttering and distorting the discography. Surely a Zappa Wiki should be about Zappa. If we must have all this tribute stuff it should be separated out from the mainstream Zappa stuff.

Hi Duncan,

I am sorry, but I read you post 10 times and I still do not really get the point.

Of course we should not write down articles about irrelevant stuff.

But are you really unhappy with the Category:Tributes & Cover Albums?

In which way is it exactly distorting the discography? The Category:Discography is not even affected...

Don't you like covers? I do not understand.

Emdebe, what do you think?

For example Peaches En Regalia already has more tribute and cover albums listed than Zappa albums. If I am looking for something on a Zappa Wiki I expect to find information about Zappa. Is this other stuff (good, bad or indifferent) relevant? As time goes on there will be more cover versions and all the original Zappa material will be buried beneath it.

It's an old discussion, and as usual, everybody's right...
I once suggested to split everything:

  • a Zappa Wiki
  • a Zappa Bootleg Wiki
  • a Zappa Tributes Wiki

Just an idea... but not one that many liked... ;-)
If the discussion continues, move it to the Forum...

Trabalhadores do Comercio's Zappa versions

Sorry guys, I came to this talk quite late as I do not often visit this site. I was just trying to write the name of the band right. Trabalhadores do Comercio (more or less means the Retailers) are a 27 year old band and all of the members are big Zappa fans, starting with me, the biggest, with all Zappa official albums and a few bootlegs in my collection. I'm 52 and I am one of the guitarists and vocalists. I was the main man behind the idea of the band, back in 1979, when I was leading one of the biggest ever Portuguese rock bands, named Arte&Oficio, who curiously showed already quite some Zappa influences. Trabalhadores started officially in 1980 and immediately was one of the top selling in Portugal. In 1995 Universal brought out a 'best of' double CD, which sold out quickly and on its second edition, the following year, we introduced a new recording of a version of Zappa's Bobby Brown, in a local Portuguese dialect, as a bonus track. This song, named Nel Ligeiro, intended to be our story version of Bobby, adapted to the local reality. Later that year or the year after – I cannot precise now – I was contacted by the Unmatched people in Spain (I have been living in Spain for quite some years now), asking for permission to use this version on their upcoming tribute album. Unmatched is then a Spanish idea for a series of tribute records, done by an incredibly diverse group of musicians and bands – some of them of excellent quality – and we are very proud of being part of it. So in the end I don’t know how to edit the name of the band in this page (I'm sure someone can do it for me quicker), but I take this opportunity to invite you to go to the band's myspace, site and blog, as we just brought out a new album named IBLUSSOM. In this album we have a version of Lucille, called LUCINDA and another version of ‘Why does it hurt when I pee’. As you can see (and hear) Zappa is still influential for us.

that’s where you can find us.

have a nice day.
