Would it not be appropriate to approach a few of the "KUR friendly" folk out there who maintain a bunch of online info and request their permission to reproduce it here? Or do we wait for them to want to jump on the bandwagon? SOFA

Am currently cutting/pasting stuff from KUR to here like there's no tomorrow myself. Don't think people would mind if we c/p from their sites - given proper attribution. What do you think?

Well, for example, I'm using UniMuta's site as a verification point on the Musicians/Associates list I've been working on...pasting from in Master list A - Z. I figure that I'm not duplicating his work/page as I am seperating certain stuff from a much larger list. I didn't forsee any problem with this... But say, TBNer "old_zircon's" lyrics site. What a wealth of stuff exists there. Also, how would I go about transferring my list - when I'm done - to the actual "Article" page, assuming that is where it's supposed to go? SOFA

I desperately need a "Influences" category... ;-) Does the Head Cheese need to do something? Or can I do this by myself? - emdebe

More Categories

I think we are going to need some more categories: Composers, Conductors, Producers, Engineers, Photographers, Designers, Painters, Writers, Poets, Journalists, Books, Articles on FZ, Articles by FZ, Actors, Politicians, TV Evangelists, Teachers, Scientists, Objects (or "Things"),... to name just a few... ;-) - emdebe

Would it be possible to add "Radio & TV appearances & specials"? As far as I know, there hasn't been a site that tries to present this. (hey, look, something 'new' at the zappa wiki...) - UniMuta

More naming conventions

It's going to get worse, before it will be getting better... ;-) ... once we start adding "Tributes & Cover Bands": some band are named after something FZ... e.g. "Bogus Pomp", "b'wana dik", ... So, these would read "Bogus Pomp (the Band)", etc. - User:emdebe

Personally? I give a rats ass about "cover bands" - and even less about "Bands that attempt to mangle" FZ's music... Considering how much we have to work with just collecting everything about Frank, isn't it a little bit of "cart before the horse"? I dunno... I don't want to offend anyone who's in to this kind of minutia, but I'd like to see some data entered under the thousands of articles that have been entered in the last couple of weeks... It's not like editors are flocking to our door yet. And I believe something (valuable) was said in the forums regarding "getting too broad too soon"?

Well to be honest, I tend to agree with SOFA here. There's already HUNDREDS of empty articles waiting to be edited; so we should probably not be focusing on peripheral stuff such as tribute bands, at least not for now - and even then, the topic of tribute bands is of less importance to me... -- User:KillUglyRadio

I am finding it increasingly difficult to find my way around the wiki. I am forced to use the Go/Search box just to find stuff that I know is in there somewhere.

Is the title Current Structure of any use? As I can't find last month's structure it is irrelevant that this is the Current structure. If we remove Current we are left with the title Structure. Whilst that is an accurate title it lacks something of the oblique reference that other titles enjoy.

In my frustration at not finding stuff I click on the link back to Categories at the bottom of article pages. This leads me to...

...now I might have mentioned this before but... I find it really (see the steam coming out of my ears!) irritating to have to scroll down to Z to find a link to Albums! As this is a Zappa wiki can we just assume that people will understand that the stuff in it is about Zappa? So a link to Albums is all about Zappa'a albums and a link to Family is all about Zappa's family etc. etc.

On the plus side - have you noticed how often Google returns the Wiki at the top of the list when searching for stuff? Of course having a link back to an empty page about the subject you are looking for is not much help but one day those pages will be full.

Are there stats for the number of visitors to a particular page? Is there a prize for creating the most obscure page that gets zero visitors?

• "I am finding it increasingly difficult to find my way around the wiki." -> You know why? Because there's more and more categories being added as this thing grows. Notice the Catch 22 here? As you add "categorical structure", finding stuff (via categories) becomes less easy.
• "I am forced to use the Go/Search box just to find stuff that I know is in there somewhere" -> I don't find this particularly user-unfriendly... if whatever it is gets me to where I want to be in a fast way, I'm all for it...
• "Current Structure" -> Well I can change the title from "Current Structure" to "Structure", if you want. I used that description to give a hint as to the "work in progress" nature of the wiki.
• You have a point in that the "Zappa" in "Zappa Per Album", "Zappa Household" etc, is somewhat superfluous. When I have some time, I plan to redo the Main Page with a layout that presents all categories in an easy to find, structural way. From then, having to go to the Special:Categories page will no longer be necessary, I would think. In light of that, I wonder if it's worth the trouble of going in and changing the categorization of hundreds of Album pages from "Zappa Per Album" to "Albums"...
