Notes About This Song

The opening ostinato figure (played on harp) is a re-writing of a long-running American soap opera theme song, which ran in the afternoon and was for American housewives. It went on the air in 1965, and is still on, although the theme - which is well known to an American over about 50) changed in the early 1990s. The ostinato in the intro to the tv show plays a similar figure to Zappa's in 'Sad Jane' underneath a voice over: "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives."
