Rose Marie Zappa (Baltimore, Maryland, 7 June 1912 - Burbank, California, 30 January 2004 [1] [2]) was Frank Zappa's mother.

Biography

She was born in 1912 as Rose Marie Colimore. She and Francis Zappa (1905-1973) married on 11 June 1939 [3], making her his second wife. They had four children: Frank Zappa (1940-1993), Bobby Zappa (1943-2018), Carl Zappa (1948-2020) and Patrice Zappa (aka Candy Zappa) (1951).

When Zappa was 15 she told him she would spent five dollars on him for his birthday, which Zappa used to make his long-distance call to Edgard Varèse.

She passed away in 2004 at age 91.

Quotes

"My mother seems to like it if she sees my name in the papers, and if she sees me on TV she thinks it's good -- but she's a devout Catholic, so who can tell what she really thinks about what I do or the things I say?" - Frank Zappa, quoted in The Real Frank Zappa Book.
