Sloan wrote the lyrics to the folk-rock protest song "Eve of Destruction" (1965), which became a hit performed by Barry McGuire. Sloan additionally wrote songs for artists like Johnny Rivers, Jan and Dean, The Turtles ("Let Me Be" [1965], "You Baby" [1966], "Can I Get To Know You Better?" [1966]), Herman's Hermits and The Grass Roots.

Zappa and P.F. Sloan

P.F. Sloan is mentioned in the credits of Frank Zappa's debut album Freak Out! (1966) for "testing the tympani" at the time of the "freak out". On the same album he and Barry McGuire are named in the list of influences under the heading: "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
