Jeepers' Creepers Theater

Jeepers' Creepers Theater was an American TV show (1962-1966), broadcast on Channel 13 and presented by Bob Guy. Guy played a vampire character called Jeepers, who showed several B-movie horror films. The show combined horror with ironic, self aware comedy and featured several spooky characters like Julie the shrunken head, Billy Joe the lizard, Boris the stuffed werewolf, Pumpkin the rat and the skulls Aunt Minnie and Doris. The program was one of Zappa's favorite TV shows at that time.

Zappa invited Bob Guy in 1963 to record two singles, Dear Jeepers and Letter From Jeepers, where Guy played his stage persona reading a letter from Dracula and writing one back as well.

Guy's character Jeepers would later be referenced in the liner notes of Freak Out! (1966), under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".

Channel 13, the tv channel where "Jeepers' Creepers Theater" could be watched, would later be referenced in the song Debra Kadabra: "And drive me to some relative's house in East L.A. (...) Turn it to Channel 13!", whereupon vocalist Captain Beefheart describes the B-horror movie "The Brainiac" that's playing on the channel.
