Herbie Hancock (April 12, 1940) is an American jazz composer, pianist and bandleader. He was part of Miles Davis' band, but later had a succesful solo career. He is best known for combine jazz with elements from classical music, soul, funk music, rap and music synthesizers. Some of his best known tracks are "Cantaloupe Island", "Watermelon Man" (later performed by dozens of musicians, including bandleader Mongo Santamaría), "Maiden Voyage", "Chameleon", and the singles "I Thought It Was You" and "Rockit".
