Duckman was an American animated TV show, based on the underground comic strip "Duckman" by Everett Peck[1] who described Zappa's involvement:

We were very fortunate that Frank Zappa wanted to be involved in the show. That really came about because of Gabor’s friendship with Frank. Unfortunately Frank was very ill at that point and had to withdraw shortly after the first season. Scott Wilkes, who had worked with Frank, picked up the slack and continued on brilliantly. But Frank Zappa’s genius really set the musical tone of the show. [2]

Duckman ran for four seasons from 1994 to 1997. The program featured Duckman, an alcoholic, sex starved, lazy, arrogant and incompetent anthropomorphic duck who "works" as a private detective, assisted by his associate Cornfed, a much brighter pig. Most episodes featured Duckman trying to solve cases and his own personal frustrations about his job and family. Just like The Simpsons the show was a satirical attack at modern (American) society, but even more so strictly aimed at adults.

Todd Yvega and Scott Wilkes composed the title theme using samples from Zappa's Synclavier library. Dweezil Zappa provided the voice for Duckman's son, Ajax.

Zappa did not live to see the program broadcast on TV. The first episode on March 5, 1994 had the dedication: "Dedicated with fond memories to Frank Zappa."

Use of Zappa's music
