Chad Wackerman was born 23 May 1960 in Long Beach, CA of drummer parents (his father was a music educator and mother has played the rudiments in drum & bugle corps). Chad auditioned for Frank Zappa in 1981. Wackerman: "I heard about [it] through a bass player friend who had auditioned. He didn't work out, but Zappa was looking for a bass player and a drummer. Throughout junior high school, I was studying drums with teachers who were very good, and very hard on me.
