Category talk:Albums

This is a VERY confusing category title - how am I supposed to tell the difference between this and Zappa Per Album? If anything, I would say it should be entitled "Official Releases" or something like that...

To be honest, the Zappa Per Album section has become obsolete; this "one size fits all" category has been split-up in multiple categories; since I had an education, I didn"t remove the tags, yet ... ;-) If you feel like it, you can rename the "albums" tag to "official releases" (although I would suggest "regular albums", since a compilation can also be an "official release"...) - User:emdebe

With all due respect Emdebe (your contributions have been huge so far) but: I do not think the Zappa Per Album section is obsolete. Yes, there are sub-sections. That does not make the main section superfluous in my opinion. Since you are one that favors democratic input, one that disdains imposed rules, I would like to know why you swiftly went about this solo ride, actually...

"If you feel like it, you can rename the "albums" tag to "official releases"" - So the deal is: anyone may go around creating new categories, and I be the one that cleans up after? I seem to remember I asked of all contributors that they do not create new categories, for the time being...

"(although I would suggest "regular albums", since a compilation can also be an "official release)"" - this does not make sense to me. At all.

When I have some time, I plan to redo the Main Page with a layout that presents all categories in an easy to find, structural way. From then, having to go to the Special:Categories page will no longer be necessary, I would think. In light of that, I wonder if it's worth the trouble of going in and changing the categorization of hundreds of Album pages from 'Zappa Per Album' to 'Albums'...

I think, therefore, KillUglyRadio answered his own question... ;-)

By the way: how many "opinions" did you await before changing the "Main Page"?

I DID NOT remove anything, I just added a few things. And I think the additions add value. You can still go to your favorite Zappa Per Album category and get an overview of ALL albums. Or you can pass via the Discography to get a more detailed overview... There's something here for everyone... ;-)

Did I ever asked you to clean up anything for me? I take care of my own shit...

KillUglyRadio wrote (10:20, 17 Apr 2005 PDT): "I seem to remember I asked of all contributors that they do not create new categories, for the time being..."

... because it might confuse the "anonymous visitor"? How many people are actually contributing to this Wiki? We, the people who contribute, need "tools" to make sense of what we are doing... Categories are the only tools we can get...

KillUglyRadio wrote (10:20, 17 Apr 2005 PDT): "... this does not make sense to me. At all."

What makes sense to one of us doesn't allways make sense to someone else, I can understand that. My point was: "what's in a name?". What's an "album"? And isn't a "compilation" also an "album"? What's an "official release"? All albums are "official releases", except the ones that are not... ;-) I mean... what are we discussing here? Did I invent the English language?

If we had taken some time upfront to discuss possible "issues" with whatever, we wouldn't have had these "arguments" (it's the same old story: http://www.killuglyradio.com/discuss/index.php?board=11;action=display;threadid=587)...

I'm trying to accomplish something here. And every once in a while I need to try a new road to get where I want to go. I didn't offend anybody. I didn't hurt anybody. So what?

There is no better way to prove my point but to have people read your response; so I'll just leave it to that. KillUglyRadio 12:58, 17 Apr 2005 (PDT)
