Notes About This Song

The opening ostinato figure (played on harp) is a re-writing of the theme song of a long-running American soap opera called 'The Days of Our Lives', which ran in the afternoon and was for bored, possibly sad, American housewives. It went on the air in 1965, and is still on, although the theme - which is well known to an American over about 50) changed in the early 1990s. The ostinato in the intro to the tv show plays underneath a voice over: "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives." 'Days of our Lives' would qualify as what Zappa called an 'American Musical Archetype'
