The Cleftones
The Cleftones were an American doo-wop band, formed by Herb Cox (lead vocals), Warren Corbin (bass), Charlie James (first tenor), Berman Patterson (second tenor) and William McClain (baritone). In 1959, McClain left the group and was replaced by Gene Pearson and singer Patricia Spann.
The Cleftones scored hits with You Baby You (1955), Little Girl Of Mine (1955) and their covers of Heart and Soul (1961) and For Sentimental Reasons (1961).
Frank Zappa
In The Real Frank Zappa Book, Zappa named Teenage Dance Party the earliest rock record he ever saw. Some songs on this album, including the opening track (Little Girl Of Mine), were by The Cleftones.
Zappa covered Little Girl Of Mine live five times in the fall of 1984: in Milan (8 October), New York (31 October), Upper Darby, PA (10 November) Memphis, Tennessee (4 December) and Vancouver, Canada (18 December).
