Claus Wiedemann (whose name is often misspelled as Klaus) was a German sound engineer, specifically in charge of live recordings.
He was born in Viernhem, Hessia and, after completing school in 1969, he ran his first electronic music studio in Bensheim, not far from Darmstadt in Southern Hessen. Frank Zappa recruited Wiedemann as opening act during a tour in Germany[1] , soon moving to Los Angeles to help out in Frank Zappa's studio on albums like Zappa In New York, Sheik Yerbouti, Joe's Garage, Guitar, You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 4, Chicago '78, Zappa/Erie and Zappa '80: Mudd Club/Munich. [2] He designed the Blue Box, a free standing 483 mm rack of effects used by Frank's guitar. [3]
