The "Dallas Cop" is Jim Leavelle, a longtime detective for the Dallas Police Department. He was with them 26 years. Though retired, he still gives interviews to groups ranging from schools to media organizations.
Leavelle was handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald when Jack Ruby shot Oswald on November 24, 1963.
Leavelle’s famous hat, suit, tie and handcuffs are on exhibit in the Sixth Floor Museum, located in the former Texas School Book Depository building in Dallas, Texas.
