Zappa Wiki Jawaka
Welcome to Zappa Wiki Jawaka.
For more in formation on how this wiki came to be, you may want to read this KUR-forum thread first. In short, there had been some talk about the "ultimate" online Frank Zappa resource. The main argument for such a thing was that, although there is a wealth of information on FZ available on the net, it is scattered, fragmented, at times hard to track down, sometimes outdated. What if we could somehow centralize all this information? And so here it is...
Current Structure
This is the current structure of the wiki:
- Biography
- Geography
- Discography
- Videography
- Tours
- Musicians
- Influences
- Supporting Cast
- Conceptual Continuity
- Bibliography
- Links
General Stuff You Need To Know
If you want to contribute, start off by creating an account. Then, read the help-page. There's important stuff being added there frequently at this point, so don't miss it - even if this is not your first visit.

Important Notes, Read Before Editing
- March 26: Don't use "smart quotes" in page titles. Smart quotes are those often generated by MS Word (you know the curly quotes instead of the straight ones), and they will mess up the wiki.
- March 25: Please refrain from making the articles too personal or subjective. This wiki is NOT about one man's thoughts/feelings on FZ, it's meant to be a work of reference, hence it needs to remain as objective as possible. Personal views can (and should) be vented in the "discussion" area of the page.
- March 23:
- Just realized that film-titles may also conflict with album/track titles. Therefore: when linking to a film which has the same name as an album/song, tag it as follows: [[Uncle Meat (The Film)]]. As always, note the space and "(The Film)" inbetween brackets.
- "Geography" is now a category, listing the towns and places that played a role in FZ's life.
- The following characters are not allowed in page titles as they will conflict with the way the wiki works:
" # $ * + < > = @ [ ] \ ^ ` { } | ~
- March 22: "Influences" is now a category page. For any article you edit that you feel belongs in this category, tag that article as follows: [[Category:Influences]].
- March 21: when linking to any of the Beat The Boots albums, please link like this: [[The Ark (BTB)]]. Note the space and "(BTB)" appended to the title.
- March 20: watch out for conflicting names! For instance, with an album like The Man From Utopia, there is also a track of the same name. Solution: when linking to the TRACK, link like this: [[The Man From Utopia (The Track)]] - note the space and "The Track" between brackets. Linking to the album can then remain as normal, like this: [[The Man From Utopia]]. When linking to a track, always have a look if there's no album of the same name!
- March 19: disabled anonymous ("not logged in") editing. You must now have an account (and be logged in) to edit/create pages. This was done mainly to prevent wiki-spam/trolling.
- March 18: New categories.
- "Discography", "Zappa Per Album", "Tracks" and "Supporting Cast" are now categories. "Zappa Per Album" and "Tracks" are subcategories of the "Discography". What this means when editing:
- For editing "Zappa Per Album" pages, tag that page as follows: [[Category:Discography]] [[Category:Zappa Per Album]].
- For editing "Track" pages, tag the page as follows: [[Category:Discography]] [[Category:Tracks]].
- For editing "Supporting Cast" pages, tag the page as follows: [[Category:Supporting Cast]].
- Since I'm still adding categories and don't want to rush things: please don't edit any pages other than those that fall under "Zappa Per Album", "Tracks", "Musicians" and "Supporting Cast" for the time being. Thanks!
- "Discography", "Zappa Per Album", "Tracks" and "Supporting Cast" are now categories. "Zappa Per Album" and "Tracks" are subcategories of the "Discography". What this means when editing:
- Please read the updated Naming Conventions before adding/editing articles.
