Gal (real name: Gerard Alsteens, August 3, 1940) is a Belgian political cartoonist. His cartoons are notorious for their biting political and social commentary and their unusual format. Instead of regular black-and-white pen drawings Gal often makes colorful paintings, usually in different styles. His work has often been awarded and is critically lauded.
On the final page of his book "Gal: De Overspannen Jaren" (1995) Gal thanks many people for their support and/or inspirations. One of the names listed is Frank Zappa.
