Uri Balashov holding Civilization Phaze III.
Uri Balashov (14 September 1955, Moscow - 19 November 2020) was a Russian graphic designer, painter, album cover designer, musical instrument designer and musician. He was one of the co-founders of the Volga ethno-electronic project.
In 1988, when Frank Zappa visited Moscow, he and Balashov first met. When Balashov travelled to the United States in 1991, he stayed there for four years. In 1993, Zappa invited him to design the cover of Civilization Phaze III. While Zappa died before the record's official release, Balashov received a Grammy Award for Best Album Cover Art (1995). [1]
