The Harptones were an American doo-wop group. They never had a hit, but their best known recordings were "Sunday Kind of Love" (1953), "Why Should I Love You?" (1954), "Life is But a Dream" (1955), and "The Shrine of St. Cecilia" (1956).
In The Real Frank Zappa Book, Zappa mentioned the very first rock 'n' roll album he saw in his life: Teenage Party, which was a doo-wop compilation album. The record featured three songs by The Harptones, among other groups.
When Zappa was a guest DJ in Dr. Demento's radio show in 1973 Zappa he played their track "Life Is But A Dream".
