Nina Hagen (March 11, 1955) is a German punk rock singer, famous for her extravagant performances. She was born in East Berlin, but fled to West Berlin in 1976. She became part of the British punk scene and started her own group, the Nina Hagen Band, going solo in 1980, becoming a huge success both in Germany and the rest of Europe.
In 1986, she and Lene Lovich released a duet, Don't Kill the Animals.
Nina Hagen and Frank Zappa
Nina Hagen has always been a huge fan of Frank Zappa. She was thrilled to meet him in 1979, during his tour in Germany. He motivated her to move to the United States and start recording songs in English too. [1]
As a guest DJ on WPIX, New York (19 November 1979), Zappa played four songs by Hagen, Rangehn, Unbeschreiblich Weiblich, Heiss and Naturträne. On the same channel, On 21 November, he played Heiss and Rangehn again, and on 22 November, just Rangehn.
In 1980, Hagen signed a contract with Bennett Glotzer, at the time also manager for Zappa, recording her solo debut album in New York City. [2] She later also collaborated with Arthur Barrow.
