Edward Estlin Cummings (October 14, 1894 – September 3, 1962), popularly known as E. E. Cummings, with the abbreviated form of his name often written by others in lowercase letters as "e.e. cummings" (in the style of some of his poems), was an American poet, painter, essayist, author, and playwright.
Cummings is best known for his novel "The Enormous Room" (1922). He wrote satirical and controversial poems and experimented with the syntax, punctuation, typography, words, phrases and sentences.
During a 1988 interview with Thierry Ardisson the journalist asked Zappa some questions from Marcel Proust's questionnaire. When he asked Zappa to name his favorite poet Zappa answered "E.E. Cummings". [1]
