Lyrics

Bop bop-bop bop-bop bop-BOW
Bop bop-bop bop-bop bop-BOW

You're probably wondering
Why I'm here
And so am I
So am I

Just as much as you wonder
'Bout me bein' in this place
(Yeah!)
That's just how much I marvel
At the lameness on your face
You rise each day the same old way
And join your friends out on the street
Spray your hair
And think you're neat
I think your life is incomplete
But maybe that's not for me to say
They only pay me here to play

(I wanna hear Caravan with a drum sola!)

You're probably wondering
Why I'm here
And so am I
So am I

Just as much as you wonder
'Bout me starin' back at you
(Yeah!)
That's just how much I question
The corny things you do

You paint your face and then you chase
To meet the gang where the action is
Stomp all night
And drink your fizz
Roll your car and say "Gee whiz!"
You tore a big hole in your convertible top
What will you tell your Mom and Pop?

(Mom, I tore a big hole in the convertible)

You're probably wondering
Why I'm here
And so am I
So am I

Just as much as you wonder
If I mean just what I say
(Yeah!)
That's just how much I question
The social games you play

You told your Mom you're stoked on Tom
And went for a cruise in Freddie's car
Tommy's asking
Where you are
You boogied all night in a cheesy bar
Plastic boots and plastic hat
And you think you know where it's at?

You're probably wondering
Why I'm here
(Not that it makes a heck of a lot of a difference to ya)

Notes About This Song

The Ventures (popular surf band at the time), along with many other bands, did a rocking version of Caravan which included an extended drum solo when they performed it live. In an interview their drummer was asked:

Q: I notice that in concert you play Wipe Out and Caravan, two drum oriented songs, back to back. Is there any particular reason that you do that?

A: I think the guys have been doing that for some time when we do one set. I guess that its because Wipe Out is the last song of the set (as far as the audience knows) and it's a very exciting song. Then to come back and do Caravan really pumps the audience up even more.

CC Clues In This Song

(I wanna hear Caravan with the drum sola!)

Caravan With A Drum Solo was played live by FZ's band in 1972, '74 and '84.

"Caravan" by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers. Yep, includes a real cool rendition of "Caravan" with a drum sola. Three or four drum soli, in fact, if you count the little, tiny one near the end. And what a band: Blakey, Cedar Walton, Freddy Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Curtis Fuller and Reggie Workman! Plus you get, Blakey's incredible basso profundo GRUMBLING during his solos. Definitely in the "jazz noise" tradition.

And drink your fizz
Roll your car and say "Gee whiz!"

This was a squeeky clean way of cussing, if you wanted to be cool and not cross the line so to speak. Gosh, golly, dagummit.
