The Channels were an American doo-wop group, best known for their song The Closer You Are (1956).
Zappa played "The Closer You Are" while he was a guest DJ on WSTM, Chicago (21 November 1974) and again on the BBC Radio 1 show Star Special in 1980. Four years later he covered the song on the album Them Or Us (1984).
