When Zappa went to the [[San Bernardino County Jail]] in 1969 he saw an enormous Afro-American man whose name was "Slicks". His name was derived from the fact that his lips looked like big soft racing wheels: "cheater slicks". Zappa mentions him on page 52 of [[The Real Frank Zappa Book]] and was astonished that this man was doing time for the theft of copper.
