'''Yugoslavia''' was a former country in [[Europe]] between 1918 and 1991. After World War II, it became a Communist republic, ruled by field marshal Josip Broz Tito. After Tito's death in 1980 and especially the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, Yugoslavia found itself in political turmoil and civil unrest, culminating in a 1991-1995 civil war. After peace returned, the country fell apart into independent states: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.

==Frank Zappa==

In 1975, Zappa played two concerts in Yugoslavia, respectively in Zagreb and Ljubljana, making it the only Eastern Bloc country where he performed under the Communist regime. Together with [[Czechoslovakia]], it's also the only Eastern European country where he ever played concerts.

In 1990, during his visit to [[Russia]], Zappa met a member of the Ministry of Culture who'd bootlegged his music from Yugoslavia and sold it in Russia. (See ''They're Doing the Interview of the Century, Part 2]]'', by [[Don Menn]], [[Den Simms]] and [[Eric Buxton]], Society Pages, June 1990.)

In 1991, Zappa also met with Yugoslavian vice Prime Minister Živko Pregl (see the article ''[[Das Capitalist]]'' by Neil Cohen, 1991).
