He was best known as an electric bass player. From 1970 to 1974 he played with the influential Finnish band Wigwam. After that he became active as a solo artist.

He was best known as an electric bass player. Between 1970 to 1972 he played with the influential Finnish band Wigwam, with one extra contribution in 1974. From 1972 on, Pohjola played with the Jukka Tolonen Band and then purchased a solo career. In 1977, he also recorded with Mike Oldfield on the album ''Keesojen Lehto'' (released in English as ''The Mathematician's Air Display'', 1977).
