Several paintings have been attributed to Frank Zappa. They mostly date from his school days and teenage years.

One such piece was seen on History Detectives a PBS television show about American History.[http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/about/] In 2012, they examined a collage that a collector bought in a South Carolina thrift shop. The artwork was an image of a drum store. Struck by the piece and its "F.Z." signature, a collector, Edward Lewis, suspected that it might be the work of Frank Zappa.[http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/investigation/frank-zappa-collage/] ''History Detectives'' offered evidence that this was a Zappa piece, but could not definitively prove it.
