'''Arthur Honegger''' (March 10, 1892 - November 27, 1955) was a [[Switzerland|Swiss]] composer. He was the only Swiss member of the classical music collective Les Six (consisting of French composers Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Darius Milhaud, François Poulenc and Germaine Tailleferre).

Honegger's most beloved works are ''Le Roi David'' (1923), ''Pacific 231'' (1924) and ''Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher'' (1938). In 1954, he named a Grand Officier de la Légion d'Honneur. Despite living in France for most of his life, he always kept his Swiss citizenship.

Frank Zappa owned a 1966 recording of [[Edgard Varèse]]'s ''Amériques'', conducted by Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony Orchestra, recorded by Vanguard, which also had performances of Darius Milhaud's ''L'Homme Et Son Désir'' and Arthur Honegger's ''Pacific 231'' on it.

Interviewed by David Reitman for Rock Magazine (25 January 1971), the list of influences in the sleeve of ''[[Freak Out!]]'' was discussed. Zappa said that he would nowadays add [[Krzysztof Penderecki]] and Arthur Honegger: ''"I'd add Honegger too. (...) I like his music, I like the way it sounds. I got about three albums by him, last year. I listened to them over and over again for about 4 months. (...) 'The Liturgical Symphony', uh, 'Symphony for Strings and Two Trumpets', the 'Pastorale d'Ête', the 'Chant of Joy'.
