He was notable as the first African-American politician to run as presidential candidate, which he did during the 1984 and 1988 presidential elections. In both cases, he wasn't (s)elected by the Democratic Party.

Jackson was an African-American civil rights activist in the 1960s and a close associate of Martin Luther King. He also supported LGBT rights.

In 1984, he caused controversy by referring to the Jewish community in New York City as ''Hymietown'', a derogatory term. He later apologized for this remark. Jackson also made the dubious and equally controversial claim that in 1968 he helped [[wikipedia:Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.|Martin Luther King]] after he was shot and that King died in his arms.

Consequently, the ninety minute piece, consisting of new transcriptions, alongside arrangements of existing Zappa work, "[[Be-Bop Tango]]", "[[Dog Breath]]", "[[Uncle Meat]]", combined here as "Dog/Meat", and at the Ensemble's request, "[[G-Spot Tornado]]", became "The Yellow Shark". On the given title, Zappa shrugs, "It sounds really good in German, but really dorky in English. What can you do?"
