Uncle of Don van Vliet (Captain Beefheart).
According to page 31 of The Real Frank Zappa Book Uncle Alan used to urinate with the toilet door open whenever Don's girlfriend Laurie came over to visit Don. While he was holding his penis he used to praise it and call it a "huge, juicy beefheart". Zappa claims that this was the inspiration for Van Vliet's stage name "Captain Beefheart".
Van Vliet himself denies this story.
