Talk:Freak List!

Categories some more-a

Before I (or any other person) can take this page any further, I am (or we are) going to need some more categories, like Composers, Conductors, Producers, Engineers, Photographers, Designers, Painters, Writers, Poets, Journalists, Actors, Politicians, TV Evangelists, Teachers, Scientists, Objects (or "Things"),... to name just a few... ;-) ... or any other means to prevent creating "floating" (or "orphaned") pages - emdebe

Have you read the main page? It says: for the time being do not add articles that do not fall under Discography or Musicians.

You're beginning to sound like my mother... ;-) The "Freak List!" is an extension of the "Freak Out!" album... so what's the big deal? - emdebe

Resp

Hey emdebe! Here's the deal (I don't know how big it is, but that list is pretty hefty!): The Freak List! does belong in with the minutea of the Freak Out! release, to be sure. However, you've created an article that doesn't have a category yet, which kind of mucks up the wiki. Not that the info shouldn't be here, we just don't have a place to put it yet. When we do, it probably won't fall under "Talk", which is where we're sitting now. It should be included in a category... It should be a part of the info on Freak Out! Let's try an anology:

Okay, so you buy some groceries. You come home and set them in the middle of the kitchen floor. And that's where they sit... (That's why Barry sounds like your Mom! She, uh, I mean HE is the one who stumbles upon the groceries. Now, he shouldn't have to put them away - I mean, you bought 'em, right? And it's no thing if you intend to put all those groceries away yourself; in fact, that's what you're encouraged to do. But there's no cupboard space for them right now because Mom... BARRY hasn't had a chance to create one.) I hope this makes sense. It's a lesson that I have learned in the last few days.

Unless you know where something is supposed to go (and presently, we only have accountable categories for Discography - and only the info called for there - and Musicians), you shouldn't create a new main article for it. It's like, if everyone piled all of their data anywhere they wanted, there would be no way to navigate it all in the end - and the wiki would be effectively useless. So, as it's an infant yet, we'd like to develop enough categories to handle all of the data that will eventually go here. Your data would have fit well for the time being in the "discussion" section of the Freak Out! article (where it could be easily retrieved and transferred later), which is in the Discography category, Per Album Sub-category - WITHOUT all of the names being linked to nothing; those links, every single name on that list, is a potential main article. Heck, that list could be a wiki all by itself! Many of those names will eventually link to 'Influences', several will link to the Musicians category (a few already do, you'll notice). The idea is to be able to connect all of this data in some manner, not just "put it here".

Ya see?

That is probably why - on the dicussion part of the Main Page - I cried out loud: "I desperately need a 'Influences' category... ;-) Does the Head Cheese need to do something? Or can I do this by myself?"... Does it really take an arm and a leg to provide this category? And who started the 'bottleneck' discussion on the KUR Forum? I just can wait to jump to the OSFA Universe... - emdebe

Influences now a category

The Influences page linked on the Main Page is now a category page. See the page itself for details on how to properly tag articles so they appear there.
