Salman Rushdie (1947) is a British author, world famous for his novel "The Satanic Verses". In 1989 ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Rushdie for the alleged blasphemy in this book.
Rushdie was one of the members of the audience during the Royal Albert Hall concert in 1967 where Don Preston played Louie Louie on the Albert Hall pipe organ. He later wrote down his account of the event in "Rock 'n Roll", Chapter One: The Members' Almanac, Winter 1999-2000". Another future celebrity who was present in the audience that notorious evening was Terry Gilliam. (See: Louie Louie (At the Royal Albert Hall in London))
On page 267 of Rushdie's novel "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" (1989) Zappa is also mentioned: "Now we're blasting the material at them round the clock, he says, Hendrix and Joplin and Zappa, making war on war."
