Talk:The Best Of Frank Zappa

This listing leaves the times and links to the original albums. Is this a good or bad idea? I would say it was a bad idea - but then this whole wiki thing seems to have so many bad ideas one more will not make much difference ;-)

What's bad about the idea of listing times, and (in the case of compilations) adding links to the albums from which the tracks were taken? Just because this hasn't been implemented with every album's track-listing (yet), doesn't mean it's not good practice. As I'm the promotor of many of these "bad ideas in this whole wiki thing", you'll have to enlighten me.

I realise I am completely out of step here and should just resign myself to accepting the imposed structure but I just wondered if the details of an individual track would be better presented under the individual listing in the Track category (where there is space to record variations etc.) rather than spilling out over other categories.

Why not list times on both the Album page and the Track page? Best of both worlds?

Hey guys,

"this compilation was formerly named Strictly Commercial." - you really think so?... Well, its similar in many ways, but it is not the same... Different title, different album cover. A Version, maybe, but it might be better to call it a different album. I think.

Nah! This is how they like to do things here. You get used to it eventually :-(

I guess your comment makes sense Bálint, my summarized description might not be the most appropriate. I am gonna look for a more convenient way to describe this. And... yes I do think it's just another version of Strictly Commercial (even if it is a bit chopped). I mentionned the mix was unknown because I could not compare it against the others. On your side, do you really think it's a different "album"? To me it sounds it's just the nth Rykodisc non-release. So I would never encourage anybody to buy this incomplete record unless they are packaging fetishists or unless a bit to bit + waveform comparison proves there is new valuable material there.

Why are you saying this Duncan, I feel a touch of disappointment where there is no fatality... I thought a Wiki was a collaborative open project. I do not particularly like to do things in a special way. I am just trying to push as much relevant knowledge as I can in there. Then people (you let's say) are free to restructure anybody's contributions.

Sorry but without the date & your nickname, your discussions are sometimes hard to follow guys.

My comment was an aside from the discussion on the KUR forums about the discography...

If you get a spare minute Maroual perhaps you could pop over there and share your thoughts.
