The opening ostinato figure (played on harp) is a re-writing of a long-running American soap opera, which ran in the afternoon and was for American housewives. It was very cheap to produce, started in 1965, and is still on the air, although the theme changed in the early 1990s. The voice over in the intro to the show plays a similar figure to Zappa's in 'Sad Jane' underneath a voice over: "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives."
