"Remington Electric Razor" was an radio advertising jingle Zappa recorded in 1967 with background vocals from Linda Ronstadt for "Remington Electric Razor Machines". It can be found on the album Apocrypha.

Lyrics

Zappa: "Can you think of a better gift than something that helps a guy look good and feel good every single day of the year? Can ya?"

Ronstadt: "Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor.

Only our Remington gives you the comfort of...

Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor. Remington Electric Razor.

Thrills and cleans you. Cleans and thrills you. Sharper cutters. '

Up go the shaving heads. Down go the shaving heads. Up go the shaving heads. Down go the shaving heads.

Only our Remington gives you a closer shave. Cleans you and thrills you a lot!!"

Zappa: "Cleans you. Thrills you. May even keep you from getting busted!"[1]

Notes about this song

"In 1967, we were living in New York, and I got a request from an advertising agency. See, I did one commercial in '67 for Luden's Cough Drops, and that got an award. It got a CLIO for the best music in a commercial in '67. Then I got this request from Remington. They were looking for some kind of a 'new sound' for their commercials. (laughter) So, Linda Ronstadt happened to be managed by Herb Cohen, who was our manager at the time, and they supplied me with this advertising copy, and they wanted music for it. So, Ian Underwood and I put together this track, and Linda did the vocal on top of it, and we made a demo. They paid a thousand dollars for the demo, and that was the last I ever heard from 'em. They didn't like what I did."

In the liner notes of The Simpsons' soundtrack CD album "Songs In The Key Of Springfield" (1997) Matt Groening revealed that back in 1989 he gave composer Danny Elfman a tape with the kind of music he wanted for the TV theme of "The Simpsons". One of the selections was Zappa's Remington Electric Razor radio commercial.

Some internet sources have "Sharp look after" in place of "Sharper cutters" but on 'GSW Vol. 19 (1978-1979) Dark Star Interview London 02.01.79' FZ speaks the lyric clearly.

FZ: "I've got another piece on tape that the world will discover one day. And they supplied me with this one page type written text for this commercial saying my job was to set it to music and I did. Linda Ronstadt is the lead vocalist."

Radio DJ "Yes?"
