One of Zappa's Side Projects was the production of an album entitled Trout Mask Replica, performed by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. Their version of Orange Claw Hammer, written by Captain Beefheart, can be found on this album. Released 1969 (US Original) on Straight (STS 1053).
This version also appears on the Beefheart 2 CD compilation The Dust Blows Forward: An Anthology. Released 1999 on Warner Achives/Rhino (R2 75863)

During 1975 Zappa, with Captain Beefheart, recorded a KWST radio show for syndication. They performed Orange Claw Hammer with Zappa accompanying Beefheart on guitar.This live version featuring Zappa subsequently appeared on the Beefheart 5 CD box-set compilation Grow Fins: Rarities 1965-1982. Released 1999 on Revenant (Revenant 210)
The radio show was issued as a bootleg CD An Evening With Frank Zappa & Captain Beefheart (HEAD 1999)
