Little Walter, born Marion Walter Jacobs (May 1, 1930 in Marksville, LA - Feb 15, 1968 in Chicago, IL ), is name-checked on the cover of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them". One of the greats of blues harmonica. Played on many Muddy Waters (also name-checked on the cover of "Freak Out!") records. Also played with Tampa Red and Big Bill Broonzy. Walter utilized the chromatic harp in ways never before envisioned. Think "Mean Old World", "Blues With A Feeling", .. In 1968 he was involved in a street fight and died from the incident's after-effects at age 37.
