Frank Kofsky (1935 – 1997) was an American Marxist historian, author and history professor at California State University, Sacramento, from 1969 until his death. A musician himself, Kofksy wrote several books on jazz, specifically avant-garde jazz in the 1960s.

He published in and edited Jazz & Pop Magazine. Kofsky also photographed the covers of Archie Shepp's albums The Magic of Ju-Ju (1967) and The Way Ahead (1968).
