Bunk Gardner

John Leon Gaunerra (Cleveland, Ohio, 21 May 1933) is an American rock musician and member of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. He is the brother of Buzz.

Biography

Bunk Gardner started musically at age 7 with piano lessons from Elmira Snodgrass for 50 cents a lesson. At age 12, he branched out to clarinet, tenor sax, bassoon and flute. At age 33 he hooked up with FZ. He provided flute, piccolo, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, bass, soprano, & tenor saxes on: Absolutely Free, We're Only In It For The Money, Lumpy Gravy, Cruising With Ruben & The Jets, Uncle Meat, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 1, You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 4, You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 5, Ahead Of Their Time, Mystery Disc, The Ark (BTB), Electric Aunt Jemima (BTB), Our Man In Nirvana (BTB).

A bet between Jimmy Carl Black and Gardner about Gardner showing his ass on the tour bus inspired the title of A Pound For A Brown On The Bus.[1] A night between Gardner and a very vocal girlfriend inspired the track Right There. [2]
